"I am a marked man… marked by something you can't understand, and don't want to."

Those who surrender to the darkness lose a part of themselves to Shadow, and many are the dark warriors who fall from grace and become vile villains. The temptation of power is great enough to topple kingdoms and end civilizations, and you know that power all too well. You are cursed; perhaps by a hag, or a devil, or a Vistani enchanter who your parents rubbed the wrong way. Maybe you've had the mark of woe since you were born, or perhaps it was a recent addition, manifested by one too many dark deeds which weighed upon your soul.

Duskblades are warriors whose power flows from the mark of shadow upon their soul; it is sometimes a physical symbol which burns with dark power when the Duskblade uses his hexes, and other times it is a purely spiritual taint which can only be felt by the aura of gloom and despair which pervades the air around a Duskblade. You are no stranger to misfortune, and your curse has driven you to the brink of evil and back. You are a dark knight crusading against the very darkness which makes up a part of your soul. You are a Duskblade… and you will not stop fighting until evil is punished.

Mark of Woe

Your Mark of Woe is both the source of your power, and a dire curse which you struggle to control. It is the mark of your connection to the power of shadow, whether by a physical symbol such as a tattoo or birthmark, or a spiritual taint which can only be perceived by those trained in such things. When an enemy attacks you or those you hold dear, your anger triggers your Mark of Woe to touch them with its darkness.

Once per round as a free action when an enemy you can see makes an attack while within the range of your aura, you may mark that enemy with your Mark of Woe. The mark lasts until the end of that enemy's next turn. When an enemy marked by your Mark of Woe makes an attack which doesn't include you as a target, you may use an immediate interrupt to deal damage to it equal to your Charisma modifier and it grants combat advantage until the end of its next turn. The damage increases to 2 + your Charisma modifier at level 11, and 5 + your Charisma modifier at level 21. If you wish you can mark a target and then trigger the immediate interrupt effect as a single action in response to an enemy attack (assuming the triggering attack targets an ally).

Some of your powers have the Curse keyword. When you use such a power you may choose to replace the default effect of your Mark of Woe (see above) with the effect stated in the power. You may only have one such Curse effect active at a time. If you use a Curse power while you are already under the effect of another such power, you may either activate the effect of the new power or retain the effect of the power you are already under.

Duskblade's Aura

Choose one of the following options.

Aura of Unluck
Luck is not just a word to you, it's a fleeting specter which twists and warps around you. Chaotic and deadly, your Mark of Woe brings misfortune to those around you, causing arrows to snap, blades to miss their mark, and a chance misstep to become a disastrous fumble.

While you are wearing light armor or no armor, you may use your Constitution or Wisdom modifier in place of your Intelligence or Dexterity modifier to determine your AC.

In addition, you generate an aura 2 which you may deactivate as a free action and reactivate as a minor action. You gain a +2 bonus to AC and Reflex against melee and ranged attacks made by creatures within the aura.

Aura of Malice
The shadows warp and twist around your body, forming a palpable shroud of darkness and malcontent. When your enemies enter this corona they can feel your brooding hatred, and your desire to kill penetrates deep into their bones and their fear weakens them.

You gain proficiency with chain and scale armor, and heavy shields.

In addition, you generate an Aura 2 which you may deactivate as a free action and reactivate as a minor action. Enemies within the aura take a penalty to damage rolls with melee and ranged attacks made against your allies. The penalty equals your 2 + your Constitution modifier.

Weapon of Fortune

You are the embodiment of justice who rights wrongs which go unpunished in the light of day. Misery and Redemption wrap around you as a palpable force wherever you go, stalking the streets and the wilderness seeking to usher evil to its final end. Though you fight with a weapon, your presence and force of will is what drives you, and what strikes terror into the hearts of those you punish.

Choose one of the following options, which represents your outlook on your chosen goal.

Brutal Avenger: You care nothing for the methods of your revenge, you think only of the goal. Others may call you savage, or bloodthirsty. Some may even call you evil. You don't care, you never claimed to be a white knight. All that matters is to feel the throat of the ones who wronged you clenched between your gauntlets.

You gain the Brutal Vengeance power.

The shadows strengthen you even as they weaken your enemies, making you an untouchable sentinel walking calmly amidst a swath of destruction. Sword blows and arrow shafts bounce off your heavy armor with nary a scratch, and your enemy's strikes seem like child's slaps within the shroud of thick darkness which veils you from harm.

You gain the Enduring Vengeance power.

Enduring Vengeance Duskblade Feature

The shadows flow into you in a constant trickle, mending your wounds and repairing your armor before your enemy's eyes.
